So this morning when I woke up, since the kids didn’t have school, I thought I’d sit down and join my hubby in his morning ritual, watching the news. I immediately began listening to the rants and judgement about our current president and the president elect, and I immediately found my blood pressure rise, I turned on my judgement, and got super frustrated, fearful, and sad about the state of our country. Then I snapped myself out of it, and got up. I continuously tell my husband it’s just not the way I can start my day, AND have a positive impact not only on myself, but those 3 sweet loves that wake up to ME. So once again, I CHOOSE not to. Thankfully it is my choice.
This one action in your morning can make or break your day. I am guilty of waking up and checking my phone. We don’t keep our electronics in our rooms at night, so I always feel the need to just take a gander, which usually leads me into email and Facebook…something I’m working on!!
However, our typical morning routine is waking up and enjoying some time to ourselves before the rest of the world wakes up! This includes a large glass of water followed by a warm cup of joe! We both then get our meditation and workouts in. Many studies show that doing this first thing in the morning not only starts your day off with amazing energy, but it also ensures you get both of them in! It’s just too easy to let other things get in the way later in the day.
Plan your morning the night before, and be sure to get into bed so you can be to sleep by 10:00 pm. Set your workout clothes where you will see them first thing, or wear them to bed for that matter!! Wake up a little earlier, and sit and enjoy a warm cup of tea or coffee…then get to it!! Whatever you can work into your schedule, even if it’s a 20 minute workout and 10 minute meditation, you will reap the benefits!!
So our challenge to you is to think about the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning. Maybe you go right to your phone to see if you have any missed calls or texts, maybe you open right up to social media to see that latest and greatest of who did what, or maybe you sit in front of the tv with the morning news on. Now when you do this, notice how you feel without judgement. Do you feel uplifted, calm, and encouraged??
Do you feel angry, defensive, frustrated?? Which one will start your day off on the right foot?? We’ll let you decide!
